Thank You to our community!!

I want to personally thank everyone in our area and the surrounding communities for getting involved in our snowflake making project for the students and staff at Sandy Hook.  It has been overwhelming to  watch how people can believe in making a difference and come together.

To clarify for some that did not know much about this project.  This was posted on the National and Connectict PTA sites as a way for people to reach out and assist the community of Newtown in lieu of toys, gifts, or even monetary gifts.

Our 6 boxes of snowflakes were sent out today as we read via the Connecticut PTA page that they are regretfully closing the snowflake project.  There was such an outpouring of support from around the country and the world that they no longer have a need for snowflakes.
Read more here: http://ctpta.org/About-CT-PTA/SANDY-HOOK-FUND.html

I will post pictures of our snowflakes that were made at the community wide event and of the boxes that were shipped out today later on tonight.

The PTA is encouraging communities to now create winter wonderlands in their own schools and communities as a way to support Sandy Hook and the Newtown area.   I would like to personally invite all the schools in our area to do so and post these winter wonderland photos and send them on as directed in the link above.

If you have missed any of the coverage of the snowflake project, you can catch up by reading and watching the following links.

New Snowflake information - update 12/20

If you've been following our blog here or our Facebook posts, we want to update you with exciting news and ideas in relation to helping the Sandy Hook Elementary community.

On Sunday, December 23 a community wide event will be held at the Italian American Club 3-5.  We invite people/families to come in and make a snowflake to send to Newtown. This shipment will be sent next week.  We need donations of materials:
     - construction paper (white, light blue, green)
     - glue/glue sticks
     - glitter
     - scissors
     - pipe cleaners
     - beads

We are looking for any art teachers or artists in the area that would be willing to help with overseeing, helping/guiding people that stop in on the art of making simple and beautiful snowflakes.

Many schools in the area and picked up the ball and run with it! We're so excited to see the community coming together!   One of my former students had her class in Maryland make snowflakes in class yesterday, schools all over our area are doing in classes/art classes and sending memos home for families to take on this project at home.  Flower Memorial Library, Black River Library, BOCES Continuing Ed program and more are also making snowflakes or providing places for patrons to get involved.

If you wish to donate supplies for this event or can help in any way - please contact Shereen at 783-6728 or inmotion@twcny.rr.com

We also will be collecting spare/loose change that will be donated to the 'Sandy Hook Fund' through the PTA there.  Lastly, The Whimsical Pig will be selling snowflake ornaments with all proceeds going to the fund and ornaments will go to the school to be hung.

I am including a picture of the Maryland students' snowflakes here for you.  Also - I'd like to encourage businesses and schools today and tomorrow while we are still in session to consider taking a photo like the one here.  I'd like to send as many as we can TO the school - not just post on FB.... "Human Hearts for Sandy Hook"   Who is on board!!??!!

And while you are out there - consider easy ways you can commit 26 Acts of Kindness.  I have completed 3 and if I can get through 26 and those people commit 26 that would be 676 Acts of Kindness starting with me.  You have the power to make a difference and to think you don't is rubbish. Now let's get out there and make a change!  Change happens with us!

Snowflakes for Sandy Hook!

In Motion School of Dance will be a collection site for snowflakes that anyone in the North Country would like to send to Sandy Hook. Read this link to learn more about the efforts the Newtown district is taking to create a winter wonderla
nd in this CT school. We are asking and imploring all of the North Country's activity organizations like ours as well as all schools to participate in this initiative. We will collect any snowflake or winter wonderland themed materials to send at our location - 19401 NYS Route 3 January 2 through January 8. Materials must be mailed by January 12 per the National PTA website. Help us to make this an area wide effort.
