Nutcracker Rehearsal Schedule

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE 2014

This is where you will find Rehearsal times/dates/locations/dance captains and notes after rehearsals and leading up to the show.   This blog page will be updated often, we ask you to check in throughout the production time.

Thank you for your participation and involvement.

You are expected to communicate with your rehearsal directors in a timely manner when needed.  There is an attendance policy - please refer to that tab (will be activated soon) on our blog.   It is imperative to have full cast rehearsals whenever possible. Rehearsals will move along quickly with a lot of material covered in each one.  Spacings become difficult when dancers are missing.

Location of rehearsal can change - we will give you adequate updates and notice.

Sunday – Full run

Act I – 12:00-1:30 – may bring small activities and a snack (must take all your garbage with you so bring your own bags)

Act 2 – 1:45-3

T-shirts
T-shirts are in!!!  We will be handing these out this weekend.  You will have to have an adult sign that you received your shirt. We’ll try to have sharpies there so you can put your name in them.

Email with 11/23 info...
I am re-sending this as a reminder to everyone and adding a few other things here at the top. :)

1 – MEN – go to Nelson’s and get fitted ASAP for your tuxes!! :)

2 – we also need LOTS of mini candy canes to hand out after the shows by the main characters! - I saw Walmart had them for $3 a box today

3 – We are still looking for more donations for our Land of Sweets tree for Festival of the Trees – there is a post on the Nutcracker FB page if scroll down just a bit – I posted a bunch of candy type pics. I saw in my travels over the last week.    We also could use wire for securing ornaments and lights, hot glue gun/hot glue to fasten ornaments that have toppers, and nice ribbon – anything pastel or maybe candy themed.

4 - Can I get a confirmation on my ADULTS and would like them to start going through things this weekend and help out our new volunteers from Lyric Theater.  I’m sure they’ll be great actors on stage too!!  I think one would be a maid for us as well!!

Tom, Randy Young, Mike Sharma, Tarango boys?
Kate, Shannon, Jessica (friends with Youngs)... Need 2 more right?

5 – I will try to have the program there tomorrow and/or Sunday for proofreading – make sure EVERYTHING looks good (NAMES INCLUDED!!) so I can have printed on Monday.

6 – I need a curtain puller on Sunday and Monday rehearsals....

7 – We desperately need people during the rehearsals to not be afraid of starting to go through all the junk in the front of the stage area tomorrow.  There are some moms that know the drill and what needs to be done.  We need to get the ACT 2 stuff together and see what’s going out to the curb and what’s being used. I’d hoped to be able to take some of it home last week to put out
crunch time – less then 2 weeks. No matter how big or small their role – 1 dance or 4... They all MUST take the time to think about and run through their dances at home through the week.  If they need music they’ve all been told on multiple occasions to just let us know and we can email it to them/you.   In some cases – it’s careless errors – what direction do I turn? Where do I stand in a certain part? Sloppy technique... What are the arms here or there...   Errors that really don’t need to happen, especially from our seasoned performers.   Please encourage them to do their part to prepare for the show – this time spent at home (just as if they played an instrument) should ease the rehearsal process on us all.  Remember that we do not get paid for being there and so staying long isn’t what we choose to do either. However, we do have a standard that we feel is important to meet.  No matter how many times a dancer has been in the show or a specific dance... They should never let things be lax – they should be stronger and great leaders.  Encourage your dancer to not take for granted their position as their others that would love to have the opportunities.    MOST of all – it is time for the dancers to learn that down time at a rehearsal can be used wisely as time to rehearse on their own – stretch... Keep warm.  The sooner they learn this – the more developed a performer they will become and in turn – that will lead the younger students coming up through to do the same.   We want the kids to enjoy the experience but no one said being a dancer, performer, in a show was easy – it shouldn’t be.  There should be some work involved... That’s where the reward comes in.

OK – enough of that... On to the schedule!!

I’m trying to work a special session on Wed. out and have been in touch with some already.

Wed. at the stage:  4:30 target time – done no later then 5:20 -  the dream/night/magic scene – this involves Clara, 3 big mice, Mouse King and Nutcracker a little big, and the dancing toys.  Since this scene has some new sections this year – I want to take one more separate rehearsal to really nail down the entrances and exits and timing. I’ll edit the music to include the chiming and we should try to get that bed out to work in too.

Saturday on the stage:
10:30 – Flowers – on the stage
11:00 – Dance of Friends in the carpeted lobby
11:30 – Snowflakes – on the stage
11:45 – mother ginger – carpeted lobby
12:15 – Christmas Trees in lobby

12:45 – Act I – plan on 2 hours to be on the long side.  (with drosselmeier and some adults for adult dance, etc.?)
Remember bring healthy beverage/snacks/lunch but take your garbage with you. Thank you thank you!!

Remind children to please just use the bathrooms in the dressing rooms and to not be in ‘other’ areas or bathrooms unsupervised. Thanks!

Sunday on the stage:
12:00- Act I – finish by APPROX. 1:45 (hopefully with a good Sat. rehearsal we’ll be rolling along)

1:45 – ACT II  - THIS IS STAGE TIME – be prepared to be in the lobby practicing when you aren’t on the stage.
Angels – 1:45-2
Sugar Plum – not scheduled but in this order
Spanish – 2-2:15
Arabian – 2:15-2:30
Marzipan – 2:30-2:45
Cavalier – not scheduled but possibly in this order
Chinese – 2:45-3:00
Russian – 3:00-3:15– my garbage pick up is on Thursdays... This week won’t be so good. :)  I MIGHT be able to throw some bagged trash in the Cheese Store dumpster too?

I’ll start putting more updates and info. On the Blog now as it comes to my mind!  Thanks all!!

Below – last week’s email!

Hi everyone!  Well – we all survived the first real big Nutcracker rehearsal.  We apologize for running over today – certainly not our intention or our habit to run that long but it was simply necessary and brings up the need to ask a huge favor of all you parents.  PLEASE remind your dancers that we have now entered
Pas De Deux – not scheduled but possibly in this order
Mother Ginger – 3:15-3:30
Flowers – 3:30-3:45ish (no later then 4:00)

MONDAY – starting weeknight rehearsals – plan to start by 4:45/5:00 – you can arrive 4:15/4:30 – be prepared to have photo I.D. If arriving during office hours still just in case.  We’ll get the little kids out as quick as we can on Monday for school on Tuesday.  We will be doing FULL show RUN THOUGHS on Monday and Tuesday and we will  need everyone there to do a curtain call.  We may start with a curtain call practice on Tuesday night then run the show. Wednesday...  I will check to see what we did last year but I believe it was like 11/12:00 as there is no school.  And then ppl can get home to get their Thanksgiving preparations underway.

I cannot believe how close this show is coming... Which means that these first couple of months of dance/school have really flown by!! Wow!!  Thank you for your participation and dedication to this show.  There is really no way we would continue doing this if so many in the community weren’t expressing their interest and gratitude for what has become a local holiday tradition... That truly comes from the effort of all involved.

With love...
-Shereen & Tricia

You may drop off pieces between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday. DO NOT BRING THEM TO CLASSES - thank you for your help as this is a big process to check them in and pack them up for storage. If you cannot bring them, feel free to ask someone to do it for you.
